Blog Vacation for Real

Dear Readers -- Today, I had a motherboard meltdown. I'm blogging this from a "spare" computer that is balky, and it will probably be several days before my mobo is replaced, so there may be radio silence from the Portly Dyke until at least mid-week.

Visualize swift recovery for Charlie -- the computer of my dreams.

Best wishes to Charlie, because when he is up and fixed--well, I just started reading your blog and I really love it and think you're one of the COOLEST and most down to earth people I've read in a loooong time. I could go into detail, but I'll get all mushy. But I am here because it would make my day if maybe you could post "Portly's First (Real) Kiss", because it is, even today, still immensely scary entering your first same-sex relationship (an assumption, because for all I know your first kiss was a boy, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was the case). Yes it's easier to make public, and more and more people will be accepting, but the relationship itself scares me. If you could work up the energy to blog that after Charlie is fixed, I would love you forever and ever more.

The second thing is--you said before you used to be vegan. I'm not going to ask you why you were veggie, (god knows, there are hundreds of reasons) but what exactly made you stop. I'm not trying to guilt trip you, for starters because that's stupid and because that never works anyway, but because I'm curious as to what makes somebody adopt a lifestyle and then--maybe not so suddenly--drop it. It is a might inconvenient, to be vegan, but I'm of the opinion that if someone as brain-dead as me can handle it, anyone can.

And now, I end with a lovely quote from Philip Pullman's "the Subtle Knife";
"There are two great powers," the man said, "and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of another. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those of us who want to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those of us who want to obey and be humble and sumit. ..."

Hope Charlie isn't down long. As nice as it is to have something to blog on, there's nothing like a familiar keyboard (home for your hands.)
